INTRODUCTION:

The Sindh Innovation, Research, and Education Network (SIREN) working under the auspices of the Government of Sindh, and the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) is organizing a one-credit hour course entitled, “Bioinformatics”. All research scholars, student scientists, and faculty of SIREN universities are cordially invited to attend this important course.

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:  

After successful completion of this course students will be able to:

1. Discuss how protein structure is related to protein function.
2. Apply knowledge of protein-structure relationships to predict the function of a protein or vice versa
3. Use the Protein Databank (PDB) to obtain information on protein structure.
4. Appraise currently published scientific references and determine protocols for potential future studies.
5. Write scientific reports on how the structures of proteins are related to diseased states.

 

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:

Dr. Amtul, currently a faculty at Windsor University, has close to two decades of research and teaching experience at different North American and European institutions, such as Mayo Clinic, London Health Sciences Center, Lawson Health Research Institute, Western, Heidelberg, and Windsor Universities. Over the years, Dr. Amtul has made significant contributions to the fields of bio-medicinal chemistry & Alzheimer’s disease with a broadening focus on stroke, late-life depression, epilepsy, schizophrenia as well as ulcers.
