16 November, 2023 - 25 January, 2024
Workshop Ph.D. Level Hybrid Course
(01-Credit hour):
Introduction to Computational Biology and
Bioinformatics
Facilitator:
Dr. Reaz Uddin (Associate
Professor, PCMD, ICCBS)
INTRODUCTION:
The Sindh Innovation,
Research, and Education Network (SIREN) working under the auspices of the
Government of Sindh, and the International Center for Chemical and Biological
Sciences (ICCBS) is organizing a one-credit hour course entitled, “Introduction to Computational Biology and
Bioinformatics”. All research scholars, student scientists, and faculty of
SIREN universities are cordially invited to attend this important course.
LEARNING OBJECTIVE:
The students will be enabled to understand computational
biology, especially those who intend to work in the field of bioinformatics but
lack basic concepts in this domain. This course will enable students to
understand the basic concepts in computational biology and to design certain
research approaches at the beginner level.
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:
Dr. Reaz Uddin
(Associate Professor, PCMD, ICCBS) holds a postgraduate qualification in
Chemistry (Ph. D., 2010). Dr. Reaz has been working in the areas of
Computational Biology and Bioinformatics since 2012. He is the author/co-author
of about 80 research articles and book chapters on “in silico modelling” and
“structure based 3D-QSAR studies” with reference to the pathogenesis of
Alzheimer’s disease. Dr. Reaz Uddin is actively involved in conducting workshops
and lectures related to Computational Biology at National and International
level. In 2011, Dr. Reaz Uddin received the title of Young Motivational
Scientists from the National Academy of Young Scientists (NAYS) Pakistan and
the Pakistan Science Foundation.
His
research focus is Computational Biology and Bioinformatics; in which he
encounters big data to be analyzed for solving complex biological problems. In
doing so, he uses advanced computational algorithms and machine learning tools
from the discipline of Bioinformatics. He has several research publications
proposing new, unique and essential drug targets against the resistant
bacterial pathogens including XDR TB and ESKAPE pathogens among others.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
The
students must have the following prerequisites for a better understanding of
the course contents:
Basic information on the computational field
Computer modeling tools knowledge
English language as a technical language.
Program Schedule: November 16, 2023 to January 25, 2024 (Every Thursday)
