Ensuring Ethical Excellence: A Workshop on Responsible Conduct, Publication Ethics, and the Dual-Use Dilemma in Education.

Ex-Vice Chancellor, Kohat University of Science & Technology; Fellow of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences and Islamic World Academy of Sciences; Vice Chairman, World Commission of Ethics in Science & Technology (COMEST).


INTRODUCTION:

The Sindh Innovation, Research, and Education Network (SIREN) working under the auspices of the Government of Sindh, and the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) is organizing a workshop entitled, “Ensuring Ethical Excellence: Responsible Conduct, Publication Ethics, and the Dual-Use Dilemma in Education”. All research scholars, student scientists, and faculty of universities are cordially invited to attend this important workshop.


WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES:  

To raise awareness of responsible conduct and ethical considerations in education and research.

To explore publication ethics, including issues related to authorship, plagiarism, peer review, and research integrity.

To delve into the concept of the "dual-use dilemma" and its implications for educators and researchers.

To provide practical tools, guidelines, and strategies for individuals and institutions to uphold ethical standards and address dual-use concerns effectively.


ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:

Prof. Dr. Zabta Khan Shinwari who has the privilege of being the youngest Vice Chancellor of Pakistan and got a Doctor of Science degree from Kyoto University (Japan) followed by several Post Docs and Fellowships in Japan. He served the Pakistan Museum of Natural History, National Agricultural Research Center, WWF-Pakistan, and COMSTECH. Some of the major achievements of Zabta Khan Shinwari include but are not limited to extending higher education facilities to neglected communities, especially females. He established the University of Science and Technology in Banu; and founded KUST Institute of Medical Sciences.

He also got the Best University Teacher Award from HEC, Pakistan. UNESCO awarded him the Avicenna Gold Medal in 2015 in recognition of his efforts in ‘Ethics in Science and Technology’. He is also Vice Chairman of the World Commission of Ethics in Scientific Knowledge & Technology (COMEST) since 2016. He was Focal Person of Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO-HO, China), 2016-2022; He has also received the prestigious title of “Distinguished Scientist” from the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 2019-2020. Dr. Zabta established long-lasting connections with an elite group of professionals from all over the world.
