LEARNING OBJECTIVE:
Scientific research plays a very important role in our efforts to health care and combating diseases. Research helps us create new knowledge and develop proper tools for the use of existing knowledge. Gene therapy is based upon the principle that 'DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) codes for everything that happens in our body'. When this process of coding goes awry, perhaps due to mutation or attack by some pathogenic nucleic acid, a diseased state is produced. For example, the expression of oncogene leads to cancer. I will be discussing in this presentation the basic concepts of gene therapy and to make you understand the insights of the genetic basis of diseases.
SPEAKER’S PROFILE:
Dr. Fahim Ahmed Shah is an ENT Specialist Academician & Google scholar. He has expertise in the field of research and has a passion in improving health and well-being in this fraternity of more than 35 years which is obvious in his academic endeavors mounting more than 100 international papers. In 1996 he worked in the capacity of Phase II E.N.T surgeon in the National Survey for Causes of Deafness, and Common Ear diseases conducted by M.O.H, Oman in collaboration with W.H.O.
He has worked for the National Ear Health Care Programme in the training of primary care doctors and nurses. He has published many papers and has presented many papers at national and international forums & conferences. He has been a member of the editorial board of many international journals and is the author of chapters of different international books.
