INTRODUCTION:
The
Sindh Innovation, Research, and Education Network (SIREN) working under the
auspices of the Government of Sindh, and the International Center for Chemical
and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) is organizing a one-credit hour course
entitled, “Biotechnology Entrepreneurship”.
All research scholars, student scientists, and faculty of SIREN universities
are cordially invited to attend this important course.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
After successful
completion of this course students will be able to:
1.
Apply
educational and industrial experiences to write and present a proposed protocol
and procedure for the development and business planning of a hypothetical or
real medical biotechnology product.
2.
Apply
research skills to critically evaluate biotechnology businesses.
3.
Work
in groups to review and develop a comprehensive business case related to a new
invention from concept to development to market. Work in groups to critically
analyze and develop recommendations for addressing challenges facing the biotechnology
industry.
4.
Develop
innovative approaches and presentation styles.
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:
Prof. Dr. Zareen Amtul, currently a faculty at Windsor
University, has close to two decades of research and teaching experience at
different North American and European institutions, such as Mayo Clinic, London
Health Sciences Center, Lawson Health Research Institute, Western, Heidelberg,
and Windsor Universities. Over the years, Dr. Amtul has made significant
contributions to the fields of bio-medicinal chemistry & Alzheimer’s
disease with a broadening focus on stroke, late-life depression, epilepsy,
schizophrenia as well as ulcers.
