“Teaching and Learning in the Age of Generative AI”

INTRODUCTION:

University of Mirpurkhas in collaboration with Sindh Innovation Research, and Education Network (SIREN) working under the auspices of the Government of Sindh, and the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) is organizing a hybrid workshop entitled, “Teaching and Learning in the Age of Generative AI”. Research scholars, students, scientists, and faculty of universities are cordially invited to attend this important workshop.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

·      Understand the fundamentals of generative AI and large language models.

·      Identify practical applications of AI in education & critically analyze AI's evolving role in education.

·      Evaluate common pitfalls and limitations of generative AI.

·      Assess ethical and social implications of generative AI in academia.

·      Develop strategies for responsible AI integration in learning environments.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR:

Dr. Sehrish Basir Nizamani is a Collegiate Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Virginia Tech, United States. Her research interests include Information Systems, Human-Computer Interaction, Usability Studies, Technology Education, Data Mining, and Natural Language Processing. She holds a Ph.D. degree in Information Technology from the University of Sindh, where she completed her dissertation on “Usability Evaluation of the websites of higher education institutes of Pakistan”. Prior to joining Virginia Tech, Dr. Nizamani served at the University of Sindh for 16 years. She has authored numerous research papers in both national and international journals. She served as a reviewer for several research journals and program committee member of several international conferences.

Dr. Nizamani is currently working with colleagues at Virginia Tech to redesign the “Problem Solving in Computer Science” course, incorporating conversational AI to enhance students' problem-solving skills. Additionally, in the summer of 2024, she participated in the "Teaching in the Age of Generative AI" cohort, collaborating with educators to explore AI policies, resources, and ethical implications in education.
