ABSTRACT:

Teaching is more of an art than a science; and effective teaching, even more so. Also, teaching at a primary or a secondary school can be hugely different from teaching at a university. Every student encounters scores of different teachers during school and college years. Only a select few of these are remembered fondly. What qualities make a teacher excellent and memorable? Why is it that some teachers inspire students to work really hard, while others force them to skip class? Why is it easier for students to learn more from some teachers compared to others? 

SPEAKER’S PROFILE:

Dr Zahid Qamar Sayyad is a Professor of the Mechanical Engineering Department at SultanQaboos University (SQU), Muscat, Oman. He has over 30 years of academic and researchexperience in different international universities. He has over 225 research/technical publicationsto his credit (research monographs/books, edited book volumes, book chapters, publications inrefereed international journals and conferences, and technical reports). He has recently edited onevolume (Renewability of Synthetic Materials) for the Elsevier Encyclopedia of Renewable and Sustainable Materials, and is currently editing one volume (Thermal Engineering of Steel Alloy Systems) in the 13-volume series Comprehensive Materials Processing, 2^nd edition by Elsevier. He has served as Associate editor, Guest editor, and Member editorial board for different research journals (including Materials and Manufacturing Processes, Journal of Elastomers and Plastics, the Journal of Engineering Research, American Journal of Mechanical and Industrial
